Annihilare

by ANJI CHEUNG

about

Annihilare started life as two separate three track projects, before finding its true anatomy as a combined release. Tracks 1-3 are inspired by the annihilation at the core of Marguerite Porete’s mysticism and 4-6 by Karin, the protagonist of Bergman’s Through a Glass Darkly - two women with inner worlds that cannot be contained, whose outward expressions are received as heresy and madness.

Originally available as digital only via Cheung’s Bandcamp, this is the first physical release of Annihilare. The audio was written and recorded between May 2019 and February 2020 - using a Fender Jazzmaster, field recordings from around West London, a transistor radio, her vox and Ableton run on a MacBook.

Anji has previously had releases with Aurora Borealis Recordings and Utech Records. Her body of work which can be considered Post-Industrial, encompasses Drone, Ambient, Noise and occasionally Neofolk. Her influences are equally diverse, stemming from her magical praxis and travels, books, films and figures that touch on the occult and esoteric. She has opened for Stephen O’Malley & Peter Rehberg’s KTL and Merzbow/Pándi. Collaboratively she has worked with Tunnels of Āh, English Heretic and more recently dancer/choreographer, Alkistis Dimech of Scarlet Imprint.
